Having a #Goalfriend Leds To Successful Adult Academic Completion and Credential Success

Updated: Apr 8, 2021

Do you have a Goalfriend? Jump into an Early Education Career Institute class together! We’ve found this will lead you to successful completion outcomes.

Call up a friend and create a goal to complete your credential goals. Friends encourage one another and create accountability goals.

Make yourself accountable to your friends and family is one of the best ways to reach your goals. Sure, it’s uncomfortable to share your setbacks. But when you do, you’re going to get emails from friends who have experienced the same and they’ll get your mind back on track. And when you tell them about the milestones you reach, you’re going to get applause from people wishing they were you and reaching those same goals too.

Academic Abandonment

TIPS To Avoid Academic Abandonment

One of the focuses of TIPS in 2019 is to support program retention. As an institute we define Academic Abandonment as a student's choice to abandon their course program without communicating with their instructor or formally withdrawing from their program. All of TIPS for Child Care Institute students have a year to complete their program without penalty. Anytime the institute is unable to re-engage a student in the academic process this is defined as Academic Abandonment.

  • Find a #GoalFriend - Complete with support from someone you trust.

  • Build a relationship with your instructor - Call or text and introduce yourself

  • Locate a coach or a mentor - many programs offer coaching, mentoring or tutoring

  • Acknowledge your unique needs - Are you new to adult learning environments, a new baby, anxiety, or a former IEP discuss these needs with your institute, they may have an individualized program or support system to aid you through completion.

  • Create a calendar of goal dates and reward yourself - most adult learning environments do not provide superlatives and gold stars, become aware of when you meet your goals and how to reward yourself.
